Tar Heel II Tall Fescue Growth Habits and Adaptations

Tar Heel II is a quality tall fescue for all areas of fescue adaptation. It grows in the traditional bunch-type growth pattern with medium-fine blade width and a low growth pattern.

  • Outstanding salt tolerance with 85% plants surviving a saltwater bath of 25,000 ppm sodium chloride (sea water contains 33,000 ppm of salt).
  • Moderate endophyte level for improved resistance to insects.
  • Tolerates full sun to moderate shade.
  • Very good heat and drought tolerance due to its deep root system.
  • Excellent traffic and wear tolerance.
  • Performs well when mixed with other brown patch resistant fescues or 5-10% improved Kentucky Bluegrass making a strong all-season turf in most areas where tall fescue is adapted.
