McAlpin Creeping Red Fescue is a fescue grass seed adapted for use in high quality sun and shade mixes. This is an excellent choice to add to add to lawns such as Bluegrasses or Tall Fescues lawns where shade is an issue and improved shade tolerance is required. Adding a creeping red fescue such as McAlpin to these lawns will improve shade tolerance.

This quality fescue can be used at a ratio of 15-35% in general cool season mixes with bluegrasses and improved perennial ryegrasses. Fine fescues including McAlpin can also be seeded by themselves.

Geographical Areas To Plant:

McAlpin Creeping Red Fescue adapts best when planted from the northern third of the transition zone and north. This creeping red fescue can be used in many northern areas of the prairie, the inter-mountain states and northern pacific coast states.

Seeding Rates:

Overseeding: 2-4 lbs per 1000 sq ft
New Seeding: 4-5 lbs per 1000 sq ft
For Establishing in Low Maintenance Areas: 20-75 lbs per acre
